Default Break in attempt?

Hello!
This morning I went down to my car at this beach house we were staying at for the week and i find the cap next to the right rear door handle missing. Does anyone know if you can break into a car this way? Thats the first thing that came to mind. But then again I thought someone might have just needed the cap. Has anyone ever seen something like this happen? I mean the cap costs $6 on sewell so I dont know why you would steal it.

I'm thinking this is just one of those cases where some cheap moron decides to just steal a part they need off another similar colored car. It happened to my sister-in-law, someone took the door handle pieces off her Acura TL.

If someone was trying to break into your car that way i'm sure they would have been successful because they already knew where the hidden key slot was apparently and i'm sure they would have known a way to open it from there too.

My brother had the same problem on his Acura TL, his was falling off so no one was attempting to steal anything, because it was a common problem on the TL. I'm not sure about the IS.

oh wow! KillaIS250 lol I didn't see your message earlier, I guess you was posting while I was typing as well. But I heard it was common on the Acura TL. but maybe your sister inlaw situation is different though.

lol, Yeah it was different, happened a while ago but someone took the little pieces off at least a couple of the doors I believe and then left empty bags of chips in the door handles

I'm sure since it was a common problem it was probably someone who lost theirs and then decided to just steal if off another car when they saw one of the same color. It was that pearly red color which I haven't seen many of around CA.

Oh didn't catch that it was a rear door. Probably just someone wanting that piece tho.

Yeah, luckily the door didn't get scratched in the process of prying it off.

This is the EXACT reason why on my last order with Sewell I purchased a replacement SGM key lock cylinder cover.

Maybe some kids? They sometimes do dumb things without rational explanation...

Happened to both of my rear doors.
No idea why. One popped off when I was opening the door one day.
Highly doubtful it was theft attempt.
Gotta take off the door panel to reinstall.
That's the part that pisses me off the most.
