Has anyone put significant miles (say 40k or so) on a 250 after adding a catch can and confirm that they don't have carbon buildup? I was looking at buying a 06 or 07 is250 for my daughter and had decided against it due to the carbon buildup issues but I may get one now if this has really resolved the issues.

Thanks!
Stephen

Adding a catch can will not solve the problem. Assuming any individual catch can catches 100% of the oil vapors (which it will be difficult to prove this unless you keep adding catch cans in series until you see NO oil in the last can) then a catch can only prolongs the interval in which to clean out the carbon buildup.

If you want a 100% solution, then it's a rebuilt motor with different piston rings, or buy a 350 or a newer model 250.

EVERY motor could benefit from a catch can regardless of make or model of car. It's just that the IS250 NEEDS one more than other cars lol.

So I have a '12 IS250C. Can someone elaborate on what Lexus did to improve the later model 250's to reduce carbon build-up?

Well like he mentioned Lexus updated the design of the pistons for the newer models to help reduce oil blow by I believe. Some oil still gets by which is why some members still have oil in their oil catch cans even after getting the new pistons. At the end of the day, our 250 engines are still direct injection and will succumb to carbon buildup.

Remember when the actual oil cap took care of this and the intake wasn't forced to breath this crap in? It just collected in the cap and drained back into the engine. Recip airplane engines been "breathing" overboard for 100 years.

Ive read through alot of this and only see people using a catch can for one valve cover, how about the other valve cover why is it not figured into the equation?

Looking into this as well since the dealer would not use "Carbon Buster" Some 200.00 service or what not like a top engine clean just less labor work. Until the RPM's jump alot more than mine have they would not recommend me to do it. So I will just do the OCC' and hope I can find soemone in Estero FL that could do walnut blasting for like 350.00 Thanks for the Write on this post, looks great.

Default White Coupler Fitting

Hey there.. great thread on the OCC, just what I was looking for.

I have a 2010 IS250. Question in one of your photos you show all of the hoses all connected with a white coupler fitting. Where did you get that coupler?

I recently received the Mishimoto OCC -- mishimoto baffled oil, MMBCC-UNI-BK . The kit looks totally solid, has mesh screen inside and came with mounting stuff, hose and the OCC.
The hose that came with it was really beefy. Hopefully it will work with all of the fittings e.g., pcv, OCC, coupler etc.

Look forward to hearing back!

thanks
mark

Emptied my catch can today. About 6 months and ~10k? Kms. Looks like it's working. Tried cleaning up the hoses with a 90 degree fitting but it's not very elegant forgive my mechanical aptitude.

I’ve been following this thread for a while, I noticed this is done basically on IS250 models due to
concern of the carbon build up issue. I was wondering if people have the same results on the ISF. I sold my first ISF last year and never got around to doing this. I recently got my second ISF and thinking about it again. I’m pretty sure it’ll be effective because my cousin did this last year on his brand new mustang and caught oil immediately, on a new Mustang GT. I had seen pics before but if any ISF owner can chime in with close up pics of the PCV valve as well. Thanks in advance.

If if I end up doing it before any other ISF’s Chime in, I’ll post an update.
