Default Window Tinting

Hello, everyone. I have heard people saying that if you use metallic tint to tint your windows, it will interfere with your gps system / radio reception.. I read here and there and some folks are saying that its a myth and they have been using metallic tint with no issues at all.. and some are saying it interferes with their radio reception / gps system..etc.

I am having a guy tint my windows and I asked him what tint is going to use and he said he uses "Solar Gard Galaxy Film".

I asked him about the radio/gps interference and he said "Never had an issue, but i've heard of it effecting radar detectors."

Any input on the tint he is using or recommendations?

I HIGHLY recommend using a good quality ceramic tint. It truly does block out a high percentage of UV rays and keeps your cabin cooler. I've read mixed reviews but have first hand experience with it. I used FormulaOne Pinnacle Series ceramic and couldn't be happier. It's about 1 and 1/2 times the cost but worth every penny in my opinion. There are other quality brands and all of them will not interfere with any signals or frequencies. Check it out and research it.

ceramic tint FTW...most common feature metallic tint messes with in our cars is the smart key feature

Thanks for the replies. Do anyone know what size I would need to tint for the is250? All the side windows and rear windshield.

30x10? 30x20?

I have Llumar ATR Series tint. It is a metalized film tint.

I did not see any reduction in the capabilities of my GPS. I don't know about the radio since I never listen to the radio. I have not really noticed anything with my phone either, but then again I don't use my phone while driving...

HOWEVER, I did notice some reduction in the range of the key detection. I just have to make sure my body is a few inches closer to the door for it to detect it.

I have film on all of my windows (20% on the back half, 75% on the front doors, 85% on the windshield.)
