If you insist on thinking otherwise, here is real world proof by another professional who sacrificed part of his own vehicle to set the record straight on these awful car wash brushes.

If you're in a pinch, you can use the high pressure sprayers or touchless washes, but be aware of a few things...

1) The soap/cleaning solution used in the high pressure "wash" (coin op or touchless drive through) can be strong enough to degrade or completely remove traditional waxes or sealants.

2) The high pressure washes DO NOT remove all of the dirt and debris on the surface, so although your vehicle may appear clean afterwards, there are still particles on the surface. This is important because you should not simply dry the vehicle off afterwards as the remaining particles will act as abrasives in between your drying towel and the paint which will most likely lead to swirls and scratches. (This also means those full service washes that start with a touchless wash and finish with a nice employee waiting to dry your vehicle are a bad idea!)

3) Many coin op places will have a "spotless rinse" option which uses de-ionized water that will not leave minerals behind (ie water spots)... this is very important! If there is no spotless rinse option, the water is most likely hard tap water and can cause some pretty serious damage if left to dry on the vehicle.

Oh no...!!! That was tough to watch!!

I always wash using the 2 bucket method w/ grit guards, Meguiars mirror glaze line car shampoo, polishes (m205 & m105), and waxes (synthetic wax / yellow wax).

Even with hand polishing, I still have light swirls left. I think I need to invest in a porter cable. 1 dealer wash screwed me
