i recently had P2714 related to solenoid problem. had serious power lag issues as a result. would usually happen once car warms up. also if i tried to pickup speed quick the car would upshift to higher gears to quickly before detecting it needs a lower gear. anyway, the car was at the dealers who diagnosed the problem and tested all solenoids and i was told that solenoid D was out of specification and was reading very high resistance. so they drained transmission fluid in the pan, replaced the pan and gasket, new fluid and new solenoid D was installed. It has been 2 weeks and no problems so far and car feels good.

However, with the new solenoid and transmission fluid, the car seems to stick to lower gears longer than before. It's exactly like I am driving with the ECT PWR mode on but i'm not. also when the car is cold the upshifts seem to take longer specially from 3rd to 4th.

Is something still wrong? is there anything wrong with staying on lower gears other than fuel economy?

we may be amongst the unfortunate few who have had transmission problems with the IS as apparently they are rare, but i had the same solenoid replaced along with a few other transmission components by the dealer under warranty and found that the transmission functioned exactly as it had when i first bought it (and i'm the original owner). so, if something doesn't feel right, bring it back to the dealer, if you had it serviced at a lexus dealer, that is. if not, bring it somewhere to have it rechecked.

what does turning the ect to power feel like, btw, if it feels as though it's in that mode now?

My car needs to be either be driven above 45mph when first starting up or warmed up about 1/4-2/5ths temperature for it to engage into 5th. Has been doing this for several years and I have never had it checked out I wonder if it is the same issue just a bad solenoid?

Usually people has problem with 6th gear in cold not with 5th. As I know if your car is not warn up before drive, they won't get in 6th gear until it warn enough. Correct Meir I was wrong.

if there are no problems with the car then there shouldn't be any problems engaging any gear whether hot or cold.

clearly, though, there is a problem here and it seems as though the user who posted above you (two posts above this post) has a problem as well.

time for the dealer!

just out of curiosity - for those who are experiencing transmission issues, how old are your cars, are the transmissions manual or automatic, and how many miles do you have on them?

Your car will hold those gears longer before shifting on a cold startup. It's meant to do that to help warm the transmission fluid and get the engine up to operating temps faster. I think you were just used to it shifting up to the next gear long before it was supposed to. All those GR series motors with the 6 speed do that. Especially the 250's more than the 350's

My car has 116k on it and is a 2001. However like I said this has been going on for a while now and it hasn't caused any other concerns.
