2IS > 3IS I dont understand how it got "Outstanding" reviews, the interior isnt even that nice compared to the, hate to say it, old IS. The Car itself has a less appealing appearance imo.

The new IS is a failure. Got smashed by the competitors with it's 8 years old engine. The exterior and interior is beautiful. Lexus always had amazing design. Main reason I got my IS.
Only IS350 is tempting for me and just because it's an upgrade in engine. I wanted the IS350 in the first place.
I can see their sales fall big time on the IS250. BMW has more powerful engine and way more economic this time.
You might think that if Lexus sat on this car for 8 years they were working all this time to come with a new car and engine just like they did with the second generation but I cannot explain what they did for 8 years

Just gotta chime and say the 2nd gen is beautiful. I checked out the 3rd gen's exterior and my preference is definitely the 2nd gen. I never sat inside the 3rd gen so I don't know about the interior, but the interior of the 2IS is awesome. Perhaps I'm partial bc I just picked one up a 2IS over this past weekend and am in LOVE with it, but I can easily see this car aging beautifully. Newer doesn't always mean better

If you look at 3IS and 2IS next to each other 2IS definitely looks dated. After sitting in the car and driving it definitely feels outdated and BMW's new engine in 3 series are nothing short of amazing, both I4 and I6.
Better mileage and bigger torque. If 3IS came with six cylinder turbo I would buy it in a heart beat.
Lexus better bring out updated engine for 2015 model.

Sorry, but the new IS > the old IS. Almost every car mag out there (even the usual lexus haters) has something good to say. The IS even beat the new 3 series and ATS in a C&D comparison. Styling is subjective ... but no way the new IS is getting "smashed"... if anything, the new GS, and now IS, are proving to people that lexus can build sporty "fun to drive" cars.

Here is a comparison between 2014 Lexus IS250, BMW328i and Cadillac ATS 200.
Lexus come as expected LAST. Last on the 0-60, last on breaking, last on mileage.
The only reason people would buy it is if they like the design better.

There's no question Lexus is lacking with engines for the 250. But to say it's going to be a failure is crazy. The majority of buyers are not enthusiasts and do not race their engines from the stoplight. The 2.5 motor is fine for most daily driving. If it was not, the 2IS would not have enjoyed the success it just enjoyed.

I don;t see how IS250 can beat the 3 series or anything on the market.

1. The turbo 4 probably dubbed IS200t (assuming everything is still on track) will replace the 250 V6 for 2015 (2014 suckas ) - this would make it on par with the competiton in terms of performance
2. The ATS and 3-Series are the two lightest in class vs the G/Q50, A4, IS, and C-Class
3. This was a poor test by Edmunds seeing as how the IS250 is a base model with 204hp. The 328i and ATS 2.0 are step children. Yes they are middle dwellers with 240 and 270hp respectively. The actual base models should have been used. That means the 320i with a detuned turbo 4 putting out 180hp and 200lbft, and the ATS 2.5 I4 with 200hp. That would be a legit comparo

I hope you're right and 200t and diesel would come to US that would've be a really game changer for Lexus. But coming with an 8 year engine and trying to keep up with big guys and sell it for another 8 years won;t fly.

I agree with you but I don;t think that would change the numbers by much. That only show what amazing engines BMW shows . The non turbo has great gas mileage 24-36 while almost the same power.

My bad I thought the 180hp is a non turbo.
