Default My 09 IS350 will be most likely totaled..

Hey guys,

I got into an accident last night. No one got hurt but the car. I was by myself, no other cars were involved in the accident. The police did not write a police report, only stayed there for safety until the car got towed. I was advised by the insurance to tow the car to my warehouse until tomorrow so they can come out and estimate the damage. In my opinion the car is hurt pretty bad. Both axles were crooked. Side airbags got deployed. I hit the highway dividing concrete wall sideways very hard and the impact was mostly on the rear passenger wheel first and then on the front passenger wheel. The car almost flipped over, went in the air and then dropped hard.
I read that if the car is totaled the insurance will try to pay as little cash value as they could.. My IS is fully equipped, sport package, premium ML sound system, park sensors, cooling seats, F air intake, rear spoiler etc... No aftermarket mods.. 80k miles. It was originally purchased for $46000. It was in mint condition till last night..
What do you guys suggest before I meet the insurance agent tomorrow?

Thanks!

Pull as much Internet info as you can to get the fair value. I wouldn't expect brand new cost from insurance but def. enough to replace what I had. Argue if you have to.

Try blue book and has your insurance match it. Also good to search car domain for same condition and print out so insurance most likely match it up. By the way, what insurance do you have? If you don't mind

They will offer what your car's street value is. Basically what your car is being sold for in a specified radius from your location. This can be good and bad. So if blue book is X amount of dollars but it's "selling" for more than X, you will get the higher amount. Luckily, our lexus cars hold their value so this might work out to your advantage.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Thank goodness nobody was injured.

Best of luck to you

take all you own out of it and any possible easy mods that can be removed. Or else if it gets totaled it's theirs.

^This! If you've got any aftermarket parts in that thing, make haste and swap them out quick.

The only aftermarket thing was the Vais linq2.
I have a hard time finding similar cars to mine anywhere in the states to compare prices.
Sport Package, ML system/bluetooth, rear view cam/ navigation, heated/ventilated seats, xenon adaptive lights, headlights sprays, rear spoiler, F sport intake installed by dealer, parking sensors, telescopic steering wheel, illuminated door sills etc.. The only extra that car didnt have was the adaptive cruise control and self parking.

Take out as many parts as you can or allowed to. Normally insurance company will send an adjuster to do an estimate on the car. If he talks to you, remember to tell him all the options you have on the car. He will put into database to find similar cars being offered at the dealership and give you a market price. You should get a report on how the adjuster decide on the value. Call the adjuster if the report is missing any options that you have on the car. DO NOT sign any paper until you agree to get the fair value on the car.

And remember, insurance should add tax on top of the adjusted value. Same thing happened to me on my 06 is350. I went thru the market report adjuster sent me and found it was missing the sports package. 15 min call to my adjuster got me $4K back.

Good luck.

I didnt take anything from the car. They towed it away already. I have the original invoice when the car was originally purchased with all added options and packages to it. Im waiting for them to call.
Thanks again!

damn bro I feel you on getting your car totaled. I had a TL and when it got totaled insurance only gave me a little bit under half of what I paid for it. Actually lost money with the whole finance sitch but I just had enough to get an IS. I like to think of it as another chance to upgrade though, ISF maybe?

all the best

I recently when through this with my 250 and like other have told you what you need to do first is go on Autotrader.com and look up 350s of the same year and around the same mileage and options so you can get an idea what the local market value of your car is.

Just to give you my personal example I had something similar happen to me back in Feb of this year and my insurance gave me $18,500.00 for a 2007 IS250 with 63k miles.

One other thing, if you happen to owe more than what the car is worth your GAP insurance if you have it will take care of it. I personally did not need my GAP to step in but to any one reading this the insurance is well worth it.
