I'm sure it works with the sellers.

Yep, it's just a term thrown around reffering to either the 250 or 350.

Although, I have the "X" pkg and tried to find an X badge. but almost no one would understand that. AU had a different badge for the X pkg at one point. Not sure if they still use it.

Before Lexus were mainly re-badge Toyota. I guess Toyota wanted Lexus to stand out more as a brand of its own.

Mainly why there is no Toyota version of IS. Closest resemblence is the Crown Royal platform. But again, it's not the IS.

Not really detuned, just a different engine. There is an IS200d and IS220d in Europe.

A lot of Japanese imports down here, its all IS250 or IS350

Previous generations were a mix of Lexus/Toyota badges that were at times different spec:
GS300 = Aristo (only the Aristo had option of the 2JZGTE?)
LS400 = Celsior
IS200 or IS300 = Altezza
Those RX things = Harrier

Before Lexus launched in Japan, they all had Toyota model names.

SC = Soarer (Until 2005)
ES = Windom (Until 2006)
IS = Altezza (Until 2005)
GS = Aristo (Until 2005)
LS = Celsior (Until 2006)
RX = Harrier (Continued until 2012, RX launched in 2008)
LX = Land Cruiser Cygnus (LX470 Only, never launched as Lexus model in Japan)
GX = Land Cruiser Prado (Kind of, never launched as Lexus model in Japan)

I thought the camry was the IS equiv? I parked next to one and it was eerily similar including same shape tail lights. Even my gf said it looked similar.

BMWs use E9X for their different platforms within the E90 group. e90,e91,e92, e93. Just use the x for parts that work on all or talking about the generation in general.

Styling wise.. Camry is still bigger than the 2IS.

Both the Is250 and 350 does not share same engine as the Camry.

But the IS250 share the same engine as the Toyota Crown Royal. That's why I said it was the closest match. But chassis and everything else, IS is an animal of its own.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...-as-is250.html

I would think the Camry is more like the ES

Camry is FWD

IS is RWD.

The Camry shares a similar platform to the ES, but shares little to nothing with the IS.

The IS and GS are similar in North America, beyond that there are no Toyota models that share a similar platform. In Japan there are several models that share a similar platform to the IS, such as the Crown and Mark X.

I didn't think there is too much similarity between those models other than all being RWD V6 sedans?

I think the Crown is more like a GS than an IS and the Mark X is the next generation Mark II/Chaser?

The Crown, Mark X, GS and IS all share the same platform, albeit slightly lengthened or shortened, etc. They share the same suspension and brake components, engines, drivetrain components, subframes and floorpan designs. They're not similar in the sense that an LX is similar to Land Cruiser, they're similar in the sense that a Camry is similar to an Avalon, or an MZ20 Soarer is similar to an MA70 Supra, etc.
