I had both our cars tinted at two different shops and neither had to remove the panels. I asked in advance at both. The LLumar installer has 15 years experience and said "with the right tools and technique removal isn't necessary". The 3M shop just said it isn't necessary.

I took my 350 to have the windows tinted and the guy couldn't do the front doors before I picked it up because it required more time than he anticipated due to having to remove the door panels.

I have to take it back to get the fronts done but I'm leery of having the door panels removed. (always a chance of rattles once they've been removed) After reading here I will guess he doesn't have the right tools to do it without removing the door panels. Most shops won't tint the fronts here (not legal) so I'm a little limited in my shops and he's already done the rest of the car and staying with the same film is probably good.

So... is the consensus that the door panels aren't that hard to get on and off and I shouldn't care about getting them removed?

You shouldnt have to worry about a shop that has done it before. You should care that they are taking it off and let them know you are concerned about the "rattling" you may experience. Although as I dont know your exact location, I would definately take a look at the regional threads for better advice. For instance, we have an Official SoCal tint thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/cl-...nt-thread.html

I had mine done a month ago and he had to take of the panels. He said the real reason was because if any fluid leaked into the tweeter it would reck it and cost 150 for a replacement. I paid $400 for Formula one ceramic tint . I watched him and its not that big of a deal

Btw, Randy Humpharies of Tint King in Billerica. , ma did my car, he won the 2013 international tint master award ( world wide) in tampa florida and took home a 10,000 check this year !

They removed mine when I had my car tinted. I had my windows tinted by a well known individual in the area. cost me $400 all around. $100 of that was to remove the door panels and another $100 was for the front windshield. I don't recommend having the front windshield tinted... You really can't see anything at night. My windshield cracked and was replaced a year after getting the windows tinted and I've left it clear.

I was told they have to remove my doors as well. and they were going to charge me more.. I told them that I'll bring the car in with them removed and the guy gave me a discounted normal price. so try asking!

I got mine done at Tint King as well. The first time they did not remove the door panels, and it was a ****ty job with badly trimmed edges and air bubbles that would not go away. I complained to the owner and he had all 4 windows redone with the door panels off. Looks perfect now.

ok so based on input here, I'm going to take my car back and have the guy remove the door panels to tint the front door windows. I am going to make him watch the video below to make sure he is comfortable (and familiar) with how to take off the panels and hope for the best!

the tint place I went to claimed they have laser cut films so they don't have to remove the door panel... but they ended up removing the door panel without telling me. Howd I find out? I went to adjust my driver side mirror and found my switch was unplugged.
