Default Tinting front windows of 2IS requires door panel removal?

Just bought a 2010 IS 250 2 weeks ago. Went to get my car tinted over the weekend and the shop I went to said that because of the speakers on the front door that they would have to take out the door panel to do it properly. Anyone else experience this?

I ended up just getting my back windshield and back doors tinted. If I wanted the front done, they wanted almost double the price.

I live in SoCal and they had no problem tinting my front two windows. Cost me $60 bucks.

My tinter was able to get it done without removing the panels and it turned out fine. If you are even extremely nit picky, then removing the panels will give you the flawless tint job. How much did they want to charge you?

I got mine tinted for $200, 30% all around. They did have to take off my door panel, but only the top half because the small speaker tucked in the corner of the door was in the way and their tools were not long enough to work around it. However, they did not charge me extra.

I paid $256 for Nano Carbon XP 18 film. Which is 16's all around. They normally charge $225 but with the two front component speakers being a pain, they charged me $240 plus tax. This shop was extremely professional. They taped my trim all around the doors and covered my interior door panels. They also removed my rear cabin brake light, instead of cutting around it. They don't need to remove the door panels. I'm very picky with my car, you could end up having parts scratched. Not worth the headache. Just shop around for another shop and ask about the quality of film. Which is what I did.

Its not necessary, but some people will remove them to make it easier to tint the window.

It's possible but I guess it depends on the tinter. On none of my cars I've never seen them remove my panels when getting them done and they all have had front door speakers...

Also charge you way more for no reason. When I was looking at places to tint my 350 one of them told me it cost more cause they have to remove the door panels. I replied with "Fine I'll bring you the car with them removed" they told me "Sorry we don't do that".

Wow...

The guy who tinted my windows took off the tweeters as he was applying the tint. No issues, no charging extra, he didnt even say anything; he just did it like it was part of the job. As it should be.

I pretty much told them to go F themselves. I ended up going with the guy that my sister used for years on all her cars including her IS250 which was the best thing as he came to my job and did it on site while I worked.

I got charged $100 for the rear and back windshield. This was at a shop in Queens, NY. They wanted $200 if I wanted the front done.

Now I want to get the front done. Does anyone in the NYC area have a good shop they had their's done at?

Good thread. I am working on tinting my ride in the next few weeks. I will definitely ask my tech if he's okay with working around it or whether the tweeters need to come off.
