From what I understood it has something to do with the transmission the 8 Speed is just slower.

3IS wins because the 2IS driver slows down to check out the 3IS

no its the gearing in the differential. Comparing tranny to tranny the 8speed is closer ratio but the ratio in the differential is taller

Depends what type of race.

On a drag race, 2IS should be slightly faster.

But on a race track, the 3IS is faster since a majority of the changes that Lexus/Toyota did was tuning the 3IS for suspension. It (3IS F-sport) was able to beat a BMW 3 Series on a race track... I think Car and Driver and Road & Track magazine confirmed that. 2IS can't beat a 3 Series on the track.

2IS wins from a dig because of the aggressive gearing, but the 3IS obviously outhandles the 2IS and probably beats the 2IS from a roll because it's gearing is spaced closer and it's always in a good powerband with the 8-auto

this is what i was thinking too. i think the 3IS proved to be a better handling car. but from a dead stop the 2IS would win

Factory (and tested results) say my '06 does 0-60 in 5.1 but the 2014 is rated at 5.6. If you are driving an automatic car (assuming you know how to drive it......) the 2nd gen should win every time.

Gen2 has more aggressive transmission which puts it ahead from a dead stop

Depends on how much you go to the track, personally I am waiting for an engine refresh before I make the leap. As much as I love the 3is, don't want to fork out more for something slower off the line.
