Blown Amplifier Fixed

Blown Amplifier Fixed
My son took his '07 IS250 to get a new battery at Advanced Auto Parts. He calls me and says car won't start and most electrical systems are not working after the battery install. Advance Auto Parts claims no responsibility and offers to call a tow truck. WHAT?
Lexus detects the main fusible link is toast and charges 400$ for replacing it, and disconnects the audio amplifier as the fuse keeps blowing. They quote 700$ to fix the amp.
Advance Auto parts agrees to pay 400$ but refuses to pay the 700$ for the amp. Decide to get into the Pioneer GM-8157zt, Lexus part # 86280 - 53110 . and see if it's something simple. (I was an electrical engineer at some point in my life)
Simple: There are 2, 3amp diodes located near the power connector (leftmost connector as seen from its installed position) on the main circuit board. They short or clamp reverse polarity (douche who reversed the battery terminals) to protect the amp, but unfortunately get damaged and short the power once corrected. Bought diodes at Radio Shack (276-1144) and installed. All good now.
Not happy about Advanced Auto Parts corporate responsibility.
Hope this helps someone

The big 3 autopart stores stopped hiring knowledgeable employees 5 or more years ago and just hired regular retail folks that don't know **** about cars, they just have them watch a handful of videos and call it a day. Let's not even get into the quality of replacement parts.

Wow, that just sucks. Isn't it pretty clear that someone hooked up the battery backward? Thank god for fuseible links but WOW, that's a lot of cash.
I think you should contact the BBB about AAP. Also contact your local news that has a "on your side" segment.

Happened to mine I don't have any sound but everything on the radio works, I took the amp out I replaced the 2 diodes, still doesn't work I tested a couple other things on the board at work an everything was checking good, I plugged mine into a friend's car has a is350, an it didn't work, what else could it be on the amp?

Glad you got it back to normal because I've heard of others having MORE electrical issues after the same thing happened to them. Sucks, but after the first time I got taken for a ride by a shady mechanic, I vowed to learn about cars so I could do everything myself.
BTW, I'm glad to hear Advanced Auto paid anything towards the fixing of the car.

This happened to me too and I would like to try this before I pay $1k to the dealer for a new amplifier. Could you please send a pic of the diode. Is it the barrel? 400V or 600V? I would like to try this first.

PS - if you can get values from the markings on your components, that will help. We can look them up on Mouser or Digikey.

IS300 amp popping and clicking noise
Hello guys,
I am here in Muscat Oman. I own a lexus is300 2008 Model middle east veraion. From what i can see my amp is not Mark levinson. It got recently shorted, not sure of the reason but may be its due to the rain. It stopped working for couple of days last time it rained and came back to normalcy. Started with a clicking and popping sound at lower rate but since then the rate has been astronomical. Now i have removed the amp from its place as it has become unbearable. Also tried cleaning it the other night thinking it might do the trick. But all in vain. The noise now is too much and the replacement is very expensive. Can someone help me diagnose the problem on the circuit board so that i can get it rectified by some local vendor? Any help will be highly appreciated.

We can try! One problem is there are no known schematics.
If you do get it working or replace it, check the flap in the bottom of the panel that lets fresh air in right by the AMP. They fail over time letting water in.
Take some high resolution pictures and post them here. Maybe one of us sees something...
Also, has the battery ever had the terminals reversed or jump started it with polarity reversed?
