Default Going from 8.5 to 8.0 in the back, will it work?

Ok guys. I have been told by tirerack that it WILL NOT work, by discounttire that IT WILL. And even alot of other tireshops say it will. And then I read in other forums that it won't. Some one please make sense of it for me! The 255/40/18 size tire, Will it fit on an 8 inch rim? I know stock 18's are 8.5 width but the rims I am buying are 18x8 and I dont wanna have to buy 2 new tires if the 255/40/18's will fit. +40 offset on the new 18x8's. I know that the overall sizes of the tire is 10.4 and the bead of the wheel is 8 and to the lip of the rim is 9 so Ive heard alot of information being thrown around. Please everyone, Give me all of your input!

Tire manufacturers have reccomended wheel widths for their tires. If the tire you have isn't reccomended on a 8" wide rim some tire shops won't be willing to put in on an 8" wide rim for you. A different tire shop may be willing to go outside of the reccomendations.

TireRack is pretty conservative on fitment, being mostly an on-line retailer they have to be a bit conservative or pay the price in angry customers and expensive return shipments.

Also if you read the specs for the tire, the tire width is measured on a particular width rim, the overall width will change a bit depending on the width of the rim.

The tires I have are Kumho Escta LX Platinums. And I did look up the Specs. on Kumho's website. They say the smallest wheel with is 8.5 inch but Ive heard and seen a dozen people put 255 on 8 inch wide wheels. I'm just wondering if anyone has done it on a Lexus IS350. I'm just trying to avoid buying 225/40/18 for the back bc I want to use my 255 's that I already have. I've seen the 255's on 8 inch wide wheels on mustang's, BMW's and Civic's. Some say the tire will wear badly or it will roll because its too wide for the wheel and other people with the same set up will say, " it fits perfect" Flush with the wheels. I dunno man. It's just something confusing to understand.

Simply put, the answer to your question is yes! The 255 width tire WILL fit on a 8" wide wheel.

Wow. That's a meaty tire for that wheel. I had 255/35-18 on my IS250 AWD all around. My wheels were Volk RE30 18 x 9.5 and it was perfect =)

This tire size was a near perfect match to the rolling diameter of the stock configuration. Stock was 225/45-17 all around. 17 x 8 wheels.

Your right, I knew that the stock specs were 225 in front on an 8 inch wheel and 255 in back on a 8.5 but repeatedly, people keep telling me it cant be done. It will wear badly and even roll some when cornering. I want to avoid that so If I have to get 225 for the back just like it is on the front because im going 18x8 all the way around, thats just what Im gonna have to do but I guess all I can do is try.

Ok, here's another issue. The Strada Perfectto 18x8 with a +40 offset, Will that work without the caliper being against the wheel? I know stock is +45 in front and +50 in the back but its gonna be +40 all the way around if I get those rims. Ive heard that the calipers are too big for the wheel but others say its not. Just wondering if there is any math that I can do to calculate whether or not an 18x8 +40 offset wheel will fit my 2008 Lexus IS350 with no issues.

You are worried way too much about this, maybe you should keep the stock wheels and make sure you buy the exact OEM tires so you don't get an ulcer or have an aneurism.

40mm offsets on the wheels are pretty conservative, but there isn't any math you can do to see if the spokes will clear the calipers.

I'd estimate there is about a 99.2% chance they will fit just fine.

Worried? Of course I am. Who wants to spend any kinda of hard earned money to just receive your product that doesnt even fit. Ask question to obtain answers. I'm just curious from EVERYONES stand point about their idea about everything that I'm asking. Isnt that what a Forum is for? Leadfoot83 whats the brand of your wheels and offsets as well?

. I've got five axis s5 wheels +30 offset all around 18x8 plenty of clearance for the front calipers and the wheel is flush with the front fenders. Also front tires are 225/40/18 rear 255./40/18

18's for custom wheels are kinda small and according to their website they don't fit the IS350.

I just talked to Strada and they said all spec. check out but to be sure and test fit before buying and I can't do that. So, Leadfoot83 if your running 18x8 with an +30 offset and I will be running a 18x8 with a +40 offset it should be fine correct? Because the stock offset is 45 in front and 50 in the rear.
