Default 3D printed iphone 5 dock

I couldnt find anything good enough to fit an iphone 5 dock into my car so i decided to design my own dock that would fit in the ashtray.

I used 123desidn to design the dock and sent the stl file to a company, who 3d printed my design and delivered it to me.

I used plastidip for the finish and a glue gun to secure the cable and dock into the ashtray.

Thanks

For the dock and the insert for the armrest it was £60. I think the dock was £28.

Its awesome to do this, I use SolidWorks and Shapeways myself.

You can make very clean custom solutions with just a little effort.

Looks pretty good. Have you seen the Kuda mount and base. That's what I had for my iPhone4S. It's pricey though but it's not in the way.

It cost about £60 to get both objects printed and £14 for a can of plasti dip.

It didn't take much time at all. I did it over a few days.
I applied 5 coats of plasti dip, then when it was dry i glued the cable and dock to the ashtray. This took a few hours.
The install only took about half an hour. I just removed all the centre console, very carefully drilled a hole under the cup holder in the armrest then fed the cable through using a cable tie.
Made sure it worked then stuck it all back together.

Great job OP! That's a super clean install and you got me thinking about how I can do this to my IS250.
