Carbon Build-up Question
Hey guys,
Im looking for an 2007-2008 Is 250 with around 60k-70k miles on it but I want to know a lot more about the carbon build up issue. I heard that it is common around that range of miles. If I do buy an Is 250 and get the carbon buildup, how much would it cost to get the top engine clean? Also how often would I have to get it cleaned?

First of all welcome to CL. I had my top engine clean after I complained if misfiring and stalling twice. They did it got free at my dealer when it happened at 63K. Here is some reading for you.

have you ever thought of running some seafoam thru your vac line to clean some of the carbon out? I've used it on all my cars and it does wonders. If you want you can also pull your plugs and drop like a 1/4 to a half ounce in each chamber, let it soak and watch it blow out a bunch of black crap from your exhaust. Unless you would rather it stay in there lol.
sure you'll get the people saying dont use the stuff, but if used correctly it's a great/safe way to clean your motor. pour 1.5 ounces per quart of oil in your crank case and you'll also lossen up and remove slug buildup, put 1/3rd of a can in your gas tank and clean out your fuel delivery system.
read up on the product and dont dump an entire can in your crank case or suck in too fast and get hydro locked, just be safe, but like every forum out there i already put my flame suit on so bring on the haters.

I am a newb when it comes to cars. So does the TSB still apply without warranty? Also I heard that there is a CSP for the IS 250 which extends the warranty to 9 years with no milage limitation. is that true? So, in other words if I do buy an IS 250 from a private seller do I have to worry about the carbon buildup issue?

By the way would an Is 250 in the year range of 07-08 with 60k-70k miles still have powertrain warranty?
I have been reading a lot of post on this forum and am scared to buy the car because of the carbon buildup

-There is a carbon build up CSP which indeed extends coverage regarding that issue to 9 years/unlimited miles.
-not all is250 were affected but this thread will help you out.

So, if I do buy an IS from a private seller and they do not have any record of any carbon build up issue on the vin # should I just bring it into the lexus dealer to ask them to check for the carbon build up under the csp?

I think Lexus quoted me ~$400 for the "induction cleaning" although i did it all myself. While i was in there i installed an Oil Catch Can setup. Dont have an issue anymore. Funny Lexus couldnt figure this one out. They just want to crack the motor open and replace pistons/rings.. no thanks
