Default new engine??

Hi, I am a newbie and have set my heart on an IS220D, maybe a 2007 to 2010 model.
The one thing that scares me is that I have seen many of these advertised for sale that say they have had a new engine fitted! Is there something I am missing here? is there a renown problem?

Your input and help would be much appreciated.
Thankyou.

OP is most likely from Europe. The 220d is a 4cyl diesel. I don't know anything about that motor but I do know diesels generally last longer than gas motors because they usually are made more robust to handle the higher compression ratios. If you are seeing a trend of new motors I would check to see if there are any TSBs on that car. There might have been a design flaw and the new motors took care of it.

that's pretty neat. thanks for the info. My first car was a Lincoln Mark VII with a BMW turbo diesel engine.
