Default HID Bulbs, which to choose?

My buddy has HID's, however the bulbs emit a purple color. I have convinced my friend that going with a bright white will deter police, which is probably for the best. My friend wants pure white HID bulbs, which ones should we choose??

I am looking for a relatively cheap price, but decent quality. Thank you!

Use the following Kelvin "color output" chart to choose the desired color output :

Once you have chosen the Kelvin range (I'd recommend 4400-6000), then choose the HID manufacturer. Some of the best and most expensive option include Philips. I got my budget-friendly HID setup for my fog lamps from the HIDextra.com; <$50 shipped for a pair of 3k fog HIDs with ballasts & separate wiring harness w/ inline fuse. Still going strong after 2yrs with daily use.

GL on your search!

does it matter if i purchase a 880, 9003, H1, ect bulb? What is the difference? Will all of those universally fit in the aftermarket kit?

bob4256: Thanks for the referral

Downtuned: Does your friend have OEM HID headlamps, or halogen headlamps? This will determine that type of bulb that he needs to purchase. Aside from deterring police, going with a lower kevlin bulb will provide him with more useable light output.

Can always count on bob to lighten the mood. Can someone make him moderator already?

I do know they are HID's, and as of now, they emit a very purple light, but that is all i know. I do not know if the original owner of the car (audi a4) converted the headlights, or they came stock HID.

when going to xenondepot, i see 21 different types of HID bulbs, so how do I know which ones to buy? I do know that D4S is a way to go since you both mentioned it above, thank you!

Lmao your hilarious. Sorry if I don't create threads about topics that have been already discussed to death. What's next, a performance chip thread? Learn to search for your answers, they are all over this forum.

well you obviously need to find out the bulb size first..........
try googling about HID in general first so you can narrow down your question to be more specific

if you say he has a purple-ish glow then it's probably 10 or 12 K which is pretty heat
then this also means he has aftermarket HID already (some cheap one because only cheap ones make colours above 8 K)
but that's just a general assumption
you still have to go check

Your cluttering up the forum by making these pointless threads instead of even attempting to search for your answer.

How about trying to do some research first? This is almost as bad as the guy who made a thread wanting to sue Lexus because his TPMS sensors went out after 6-7 years.
