Default Replaced Alternator...Dealer used remanufactured alternator

Back in July, the alternator on my 2011 IS350 went bad (or so said the dealer) and they replaced it.

Today, browsing through my service history online, I noticed that the parts replaced for the alternator is listed as "REMAN ALTERNATOR."

Do I have to settle for a re-manufactured alternator? The car is still under warranty and I just assumed the part will be brand new OEM. Is this a standard practice?

Should I insist on new OEM alternator now? Thoughts?

I was surprised to have the alternator go at around 23k miles...seems a bit premature for a Lexus?

I recently had my alternator replaced in my 06 350 and it was reman...new and reman is basically the same price +/- $400...however since yours is 2013 I would demand an OEM.

If I'm not mistaken all alternators installed after factory have to be rebuilt. Had one installled a few years back and its what I was told by the mechanic.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

No, it shouldnt matter, I just checked and all IS250/350 alternators are compatible from 06-13 with a list price of $564...I got my reman from Worldpac for $400ish, so, I can see why they used a reman

Warranty policy is to use remanufactured when it is available.

I wouldn't worry about it, Toyota remanufactured parts are seriously excellent, basically the same as new and way better than most any other rebuilt parts out there.

You may or may not have any luck. Lexus does offer remanufactured parts, but considering the car is so new I would try to get a new part. Also, if you don't plan on keeping the car past the 4yr/50k warranty than I wouldn't worry about it.

Re-manufactured Alt carry the same warranty I believe. I do not think you can get new ones.

I worked in a Toyota dealer for a while and as long as it was a factory reman, I wouldn't worry. Often that is all they offer after some time but must legally declare it a reman. This was pretty common with alternators and calipers depending on the model. I also never saw any issue with a remaned factory part in the 7 years I was there. Toyota does a really good job of replacing the guts of these parts and often its the housing that was reused.

Now if they gave you and after market reman without you authorization, well then, Houston we have a problem!

Thanks everyone. It sounds like I won't have to worry about it. The SA said they are Lexus reman part not some after market stuff.

BTW, what is the going rate for 25K service? They are charging $156 for what basically amounts to engine oil change and tire balancing? Not even sure if I need tire balancing?
