Oil Dipstick Level Check
Oil Level check
Our dipsticks have always been a challenge in reading the oil level.
And some have tried to score it, which I did. Still have a heck of a time. All I trust is that I put in the right amount and if tyhere is no leak and the engine is not burning oil, I am golden.
I had the same issue with my MX-5.
Then…the idea came, what if we put in a shrink tube at the end of the dipstick? It could be white shrink tubing.
What do you guys think?
Concerns/Failure modes:
Degradation of the shrink tube. Very low.
Shrink tube slipping off the dipstick. Very low.
Chemical reaction to oil. ?? I will drop a shrink tube (heated up) into oil and see if something happens.
Let the experiments begin!
