I'm a fireman in San Francisco and we don't open up cars if there's nobody inside (a child). This is not an emergency and cops and firefighters don't get slim jim training. we use a new blood pressure cuff now. Still they won't come out for this.

Cutting a key is your best bet, good luck.

The Ray Ramano approach! I like that haha.

But yea just pray to the lexus gods and keep putting your hands in the doors to see if you might get lucky one time and hear the relieving noises of *beep beep* Good luck!

SFFD is correct. I'm a cop in CA and we don't carry "slim jims" we would only open the vehicle is through exigent circumstances. Maybe if it was snowing and really cold out, the heater not on, I would break the window. But most departments are not willing to take the liability of damages to the vehicle for non emergency situations however my old department had waiver liability forms that the owner could fill out. My opinion on your situation is call the police non emergency line and have them come. They will come if they don't have a priortiy call. Most departments have certain tow companies that they deal with on a regular. Hopefully they don't try to solve your problem old school with a wedge and pick. In my own opinion my safety of my kids come first over a car. Luckily for me my wife is a nurse and she has a blood pressure cuff handy.

Thanks guys...I bit the bullet and ordered a new cut master key.

$90 later.....

Amazing that I can have ONSTAR pop my Corvette open with a phonecall, but a Lexus requires such ridiculous measures.

It requires a small battery that cost less than $5?

I would try AAA (triple A) my buddy of mine has the same problem nut, it wasn't the wife lol. Well anyways amazing how fast he opened the door. 5 minutes is what it took you should give them a shot.

Happy you got that fixed. And dam that's really cool your corvette can do that. And is it for any car that has onstar or just the corvette?

Any car that has OnStar can do it, but you pay a monthly or annual fee to subscribe to the service. But yeah, that's stupid that your Corvette with OnStar has services available through OnStar, and your IS, which doesn't have OnStar, can't provide services through OnStar. Crazy, right?

There is no comparison between a Corvette and an IS, period. Two totally different cars.

Your situation is so extreme, both remote controls with low battery in the car in the same time and manualy close the door......I wouldn;t blame Lexus for being expensive to solve your mistakes. You get a great amount of warnings of battery low.

Don't put too much faith in AAA. My daughter had a flat tire and they told her someone would be out in 3 hours. Some nice fella changed it instead.

I agree that if the fobs had good batteries...the doors wouldn't have locked in the first place. Owner error...not the fault of Lexus.

So--you just tell your dealer you need a new key and give them the VIN, and they cut it? What's to stop any Joe Schmoe who gets a hold of your VIN and ID to get a key cut for your car?

I don't know what more that could ask for. There's no other form of identification that the dealer could ask for IMO.
