Hello club lexus.

My name is Christian and im new to this site but am in desperate need of your help, and im sorry if i posted in the wrong section.

I bought this car 6 months ago and i fell in love with it. A few months ago the car started shifting really hard when being placed into drive. I started driving to work and the CEL came on. I took the car to my mechanic and he said he pulled DTC P0983 which is SHIFT SOLENOID D CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH (SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE S4. I Called a Friend of my family that has a trans shop and he came and hooked up the computer to my car and told me that the codes were coming up as faulty codes, basically he said that its showing a code but not picking it up which makes no sense to me. He proceeded to telling me he was going to reflash my computer and that it might take care of my issue but he couldnt flash it for some reason and that i would have to take it to lexus.

I have looked for answers on this website but have unsuccessfully found any threads on this
problem.

My question is has this ever happened to anyone with there lexus and if so what was the fix. Im extremely nervous seeing that this is my first new car and i dont have a warantee so i im almost positive this will cost alot.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

First thing first, reset the vehicle's systems by disconnecting the battery (- cable easiest) for at least 15 minutes. Let us know if the code persists.

GL!

Did that the first time it came up and i drove it back home and as soon as i was 2 minutes from my house it came back on. As soon as it came on i put the car in neutral waited a couple sec and switched back to drive and my trans and motor jumped so hard i felt like it was going to break all the mounts.

Hi, Look for transmission fluid leaks where the shaft connects..... Also you can have Toyota check your fluid level and possible add if necessary for free.... If your car has more than 100k miles,it probably could use a transmission (WS) fluid flush ($170)..... Hopefully that solves the issue, if it dissent then a newer Lexus Toyota repair shop whit the correct equipment could give you a better diagnostic and a quote of less than $1500.
Other option and the one a chose, was to replace the transmission my self ($800) drove 3 hours to pick the 2012 1000 mike transmission from wrecking yard car and also gave a tip to the mechanic to save the WS Transmission fluid from spilling. ($100 saving) and change it myself .... Some shops would charge you around $200 and believe me is worth it.

Good luck!

One more thing..... The CEL could also be triggered by a bad gas cap or a vaccine hose.

True, but it wouldn't cause the car to shift hard.

btw, the solenoid probably just needs to be replaced. did you happen to hit anything while driving?

Thanks for the info ill check that this weekend the car has 76k on it which is why i find it so strange that the car would be acting up this fast, i dont beat on the car at all... any way i checked the cap when i first got the car and it was fine, today i went to start it and it and the battery was dead so i went and got a new one drove it for a while and the light hasnt come back on But its acting funny and shifting hard from 4th to 5th then 6th after i hit 40mph but it shifts a little bit hard. Im going to check for a leak over the weekend and if i have one im going to tow it to lexus and have them do what they do..

I just hope they dont try playing any funny crap..
