Interested in upgrading my speakers...
I am interested in upgrading my speakers in my premium 2K11 is350.
Can I accomplish doing this without replacing my stock head unit?
Or do I need do I need to put in a new head unit to accomplish this task?
The reason I ask is because I blew out my two mid front speakers, and interested in going aftermarket to replace them.
Thank you,
Hunter

There are ways you can just upgrade the speaker it self through by hard wiring it to the aftermarket speakers BUT someone correct me if I'm wrong but im pretty sure my IS (NON ML) has like 10-12 speakers through out so it becomes a matter of compromising sound quality if you do just a handful of speakers. The speakers are not full range speakers so each speaker is responsible for different frequencies of the outputs. They become super expensive after replacing just a few. The OEM tweeters (those small 1 inch speakers by the window) alone are like $150 per side
Most cars usually have a 4 full range speaker setup with optional 5th OEM SUB so those are rather cheap to replace with aftermarket full range speakers.

If your happy with oem's just replace the messed up ones.
If not
With a small budget you can upgrade with entry level components, sound proccessor and a 5 channel amp, trust me money well spent.

I went with the processor and front stage component route and couldn't be happier. It is the best way to go if you want to keep your OEM navigation and what not.
The guy who installed it for me told me that if you want to keep your OEM system, due to the fact that the OEM stereo has a unique 13 speaker surround system, you will need to a processor to convert this into a 5 channel system. (aka aftermarket system, channels depends on what you want) but I was pretty blown away on what a processor can do to the OEM unit. I switched over to the VaisTech system now so I have the vais system processing the original sound and have a Audison processor clean that sound. It really depends on what kind of sound quality you want and how loud you want your sound to be.

I will say this. Do some research i am very happy with the results from getting the JL components. If you arent worried about cost, check into JL or Hertz I believe not 100% sure on the name. Both very well made speakers and a great delivery of quality sound. I just love JL as I grew up around the brand. My setup for just the front and rear components without install was about 700. Install requires new brackets be set in place to hold the speakers in. Its not a small job but it is at the same time if that makes sense. PM me if u have any questions or want any pictures id be more than happy to help you out.

I went with the Hertz 3 way components up front and added a Hertz center channel. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/bui...with-pics.html

I am a huge fan of JL, but the ZR650-CSI only comes in a 2 way .
Would I miss the extra mid bass, or are they so good that there is not a need for a mid?
