Hello everyone.. new to the forum and had a couple of questions.
Back story...I bought a 07 IS the beginning of DEC 13 with 127k. At the time it had a dead battery and I assumed it was due to sitting on the lot. After driving it...the battery seemed to charge up and hold a charge.
Fast forward to the other night....had the car just idling outside of my house when it suddenly shut off and when I went to restart it the battery was completely dead. A new battery was installed and everything seems to be fine. My questions are as follows..
Is the alternator the culprit? Or something more? Or is it just a battery that took a dump?
Now that I have been driving it...it doesn't seem to have the same power..is there a relearning process after battery replacement?
Lastly...totally unrelated issue...is the valve train usually noisy? Or am I hearing something else...sounds like typical valve tap
Thanks

Seems as the battery just took a dump. They tend to sometimes go out of nowhere. Especially since the car just sat it probably lost some of its cells and never went back to new condition.
As far as the car feeling sluggish the answer is yes the car has to relearn its self anytime you disconnect the battery.
The lexus valve trains are known To be louder than most. I wouldn't worry to much about it but if you feel uncomfortable about it run it by your service guy on the next oil change if you go to the dealership.

The battery that went bad was probably the original one from the factory and it was due to be replaced anyways. But what CAN happen is that if a vehicle is ran on a bad a battery, that can take a toll on the alternator causing it to go bad too. I'd take it to an auto parts store and have them test BOTH the battery and the alternator. If the alternator is now bad, it can also make the battery go bad too.
