I guess it is up to Safelite and their supplier on what glass they get really.
But here's the link to Sewell showing the near $700 price tag for an OEM windshield:

I just had my windshield replaced by Glass America. It was $200 installed with OEM glass, over half of what Safelite quoted. Well worth the cost too, I can finally see clearly!

Did Safelite in November. No problems at all.

You do not pay higher premiums than a Civic owner so that the insurance company will pay for OEM parts. You pay higher premiums based on cost of repairs, and likelihood of claims. Whether any insurance company will pay for OEM parts is based on the insurance policy (which is a contract). My policy pays for OEM parts if they need replacement within 2 years of the in-service date of a new car purchase. Other policies may differ. If you want OEM parts covered, you need to read your policy and shop around. I think you'd find that you would change your mind once you discovered what your premiums would be for that coverage.

I called my local Lexus dealer & asked them who they use to do windshield installs. I then called them to have them install a replacement windshield on my IS350. Their total cost was ~$200 less than Safelite & I had the reassurance knowing they have done Lexus window installs before. I was more concerned about the installer dealing with the side moldings and rain sensor than the type of glass they used. Thats why I called my local Lexus dealer.

Finally got mine replaced. I used the installer that my local Lexus dealer uses. They used PGW glass which I think used to be PPG. Looks just like the OE glass. I did have to fork over $55 extra for 10 of those blue clips.
