Default Anybody weld their own leaking exhaust?

IS 250 AWD, 180,000+ miles.

I have a couple of exhaust leaks where the heat shields attach to the pipe. Buying the Y pipe is something like $1500+, which is out of the question. Thinking about removing the Y pipe so I can see areas that are currently hidden. Will then either weld it myself or take it somewhere for welding. Anyone do this? I am assuming that ALL of the rusty bolts will break and that I will need gaskets. Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

jim

You can always purchase aftermarket exhaust which give you some extra HP (~5 HP) and nice sound.

Or buy used stock exhaust for very cheap price (about $200 or less) from other members here from the classified section. I just sold a used stock exhaust for $100 few weeks ago.

Aftermarket Y pipe? I thought the Y pipe was a dealer-only item. Got a link?

Thx

I think the whole exhaust system consists of 3 parts: header, midpipe and axle-back mufflers.

There are a lot of different after-market axle-back exhausts out there including the official F Sport one from Lexus. There are also 2 after market midpipe that are popular for our car from Invidia, or Megan. I am not sure if Y pipe is midpipe. However, going after market midpipe will makes your car so much louder and in some states even illegal due to the removal of cats.

For your application, your best bet is look for a used stock exhaust system. If y pipe is midpipe, then you need a stock midpipe. You can post one "want to buy stock exhaust system" in the classified section in this forum.
