OEM or after market windshield on CPO

The sales rep got back to me today. He's spoken to their parts department and said acoustic interlayer is not an option on the Lexus factory windshields (?) and none of the IS on his lot have acoustic interlayer.
At this point, I'm willing to let the issue go. I think I got a quality replacement that was installed well.

Yeah I looked through my sales brochure for my IS 350 and it does not mention acoustic glass. Also looking at my 1998 es300 glass, it also has the bolt symbol identical to the picture on the first page of this thread. I think that symbol means UV protection, not acoustic. That option should not have existed in 1998.

To OP, if you can't tell the difference or doesn't bother you, don't get it replace again. I had different windshields before and I can tell some difference but it's not that big. As some others have said, it does pit very easily -- I'm not sure how others perform. Also, my Lexus windshield doesn't have the symbol.

They may follow the same specification, but they're not as good. For example, the Lexus specification might say the edge distortion cannot exceed 1" and the manufacturers will produce glass with 1" of distortion and will meet specifications. However, Lexus branded glass will likely have 0.5" or less distortion.

What amazes me is how much car manufacturers jump around to different glass companies. My IS350 had a Nippon SG OE windshield before I got it replaced. I see some others on this board have Asahi OE glass. Ive seen BMWs with OE PPG and Pilkington.

Its whoever can supply the cheapest parts at the specifications required by the manufacturer. When I was working for Toyota, we went from PPG to Pilkington one year because they were able to provide the glass to the factory cheaper than PPG could. At the end of the day, its whoever is available locally that is the cheapest.

Bumping a 10-month old thread, but just to add something to the topic, the OEM IS glass sold by Sewell says it has an inner acoustic layer and on the picture they have of the stamp on the windshield you can clearly see it says "AS-2" which indicates it is acoustic glass.
