In my 2008, I use 0w20. I used to use 0w30 until I was sent a Lexus.Toyota bulletin that 0w20 was approved for use in the IS250. The bulletin was pretty dated...like back in 2007.
I attached the Toyota TSB with the listed GR series engine as being able to use the w20 oils.
Just wanted to post it. This is what I referenced to earlier.
That bulletin only applies to Toyota and Scion models, which do use some GR-series engines (1GR-FE, 2GR-FE), however these are not the same as the GR-series engines used in some Lexus models like the 2IS (2GR-FSE, 4GR-FSE). They are from the same series, but are quite different.
That bulletin is also only specifying that Toyota GR engines are able to use 5W20, not 0W20 (though there have been further bulletins that specify 0W20 for the 2GR-FE, though not for the 1GR-FE). The only engines that bulletin is stating can use 0W20 are the AZ series starting from the 2006 MY.
Long story short: that Toyota bulletin doesn't apply to the 2IS.
Lexus still lists 5W30 for the 2006-2010 IS250 and 2006-2013 IS350. Only the 2011-2014 IS250 and 2014 IS350 are listed to use 0W20.
This is reiterated in the Lexus bulletin just posted by lowrideraz.
Jeff
I'm confused on this . I thought all IS from 2006 to 2014 have same engine ? Why would Lexus only recommonded 0w20 on 2014 and newer ?
And what would happen if i use 0w20 on 2011?
Please advise...
