Default Speedometer Gauge - Dims/Brighten

I've scanned my owners manual but I can't find anything as to why my speedo backlight will brighten and dim at various times. I'm not referring to the orange/blue ring lights that you can set for speed indication but the overall white display/numbers,etc. on the speedo. I see some posts about dimming being an issue but this seems to be with more of some sort of purpose but I haven't been able to tie to any type of action?

Thanks,
Jaime

When it gets dark outside, it dims the dash lighting. If you don't want it to dim, turn the illumination **** all the way until it clicks, then it will be full brightness all the time.

Bright outside = Lights off, gauge cluster full brightness.
Darker outside = Lights on, gauge cluster full brightness.
Dark outside = Lights on, gauge cluster dimmed.

One thing to note if you have nav on your car; If you turn it till it clicks so it is full bright, when it is nighttime the nav will NOT darken for night driving and will stay in day mode.

no navy.
it happens on the same drive (say to work 1 hr) where it brightens, dims, brighten dims... is the sensor that sensitive to going under bridges, etc. I watched for it on the way home Friday and didn't see it happen (is it because I posted and am watching ) and now that it was mentioned, I also remember playing recently with the dash brightness - I'll have to check the setting.

thanks for the replies, they have illuminated me

I have noticed it can be pretty sensitive. My lights have come on, hence my interior lights dimmed, when passing under bridges, in short tunnels, etc.

it was a dark and rainy morning... and the display was twitching back and forth. so it's the entire backlighting of the dash (not just the speedo), even noticed that the environmental controls & radio displays were also doing the same.

oh well, guess that's the way it is
