Default Exhaust+Midpipe problem

Hi,

As shown in the picture in big black circle the mid-pipes got rust over the years and were making terrible sound when i used to drive my car . For now my mechanic removed the L shaped pipes and put on a different pipe and did some welding to it. It works for now but i dont think so its a good solution. I wanted to ask you guys if any of you had any experience in regards to rust on the midpipe or on the exhaust itself. what is best solution for me?

a) to go with a aftermarket exhaust and midpipe? if i do this then i my mechanic was sayin i will get check VSC and all other O2 sensor lights and my car might now pass emission
b) or if anyone knows where i can order those pipes so atleast its in original state as it was??

Confused any help will be appreciated
Thanks

You mechanic doesn't know what he talking about. The o2 are pre secondary cat after your primary cat. So if you go with after market it won't throw cel unless he creates a leak at the gasket. Will it pass emission that depends on your local emission. Where I live they don't look underneath for all the stock cats.

i know my mechanic did the welding too. I am just not confident its gonna hold it up for too long. Thats why i was asking if should change the entire exhaust system later??

the part cost for that assembly pipe is coming around 1700 on sewell which i think is a lot

Any suggestions where i can get that part cheaper or it has to be dealer

People are constantly getting new aftermarket midpipes and selling their old one. You could pick up a used one for under $100 easily. And ya, he's incorrect because as long as you only remove your secondary cats, no CEL will go on. I know because I have an aftermarket midpipe. I would suggest you go to a junkyard, search on craigslist, or check with clublexus.

See this thread:

I think this could be classified as an emissions issue and be covered under the Emissions Warranty.
