Default Water Pump / Valve Cover Gasket R&R

Just this Friday I tackled the notorious leaking water pump. It was not leaking yet but was all crusted over by the weep hole. The valve cover gaskets are easier to tackle than you would think. The difficult one is the Driver Side (Bank 2) The only difficult thing about the passenger side is the high pressure fuel pump located on the back side of the cover. I did not replace the gasket for the fuel pump when doing the job. I can get you a Lexus parts list for all the gaskets required to do the job, just let me know. I took some pictures to show the important things that some might look over.

The O-Rings that go between the valve cover and the timing solenoids(V V T). I did not replace mine when doing the job. Just make sure they don't fall out when putting the covers back on. Its a tight squeeze if you don't move the wiring harness.

Don't forget to replace the O-Ring on the water Outlet Pipe where the water inlet meets.

When doing the water pump also preform your coolant flush and replace your thermostat. It is located on the Water Inlet.

Just make sure you keep a eye on what bolts go where, Toyota used both 10's and 12's on the water pump. Make sure you note where they go back. If you attempt the job and get stuck or have a question just let me know and ill try to point you in the right direction.

I took a picture of the water pump out of the car to show the leak and build up.
What to look for if you think your water pump is leaking.

Nice post and pictures on the water pump... Why were you replacing the valve cover gaskets? Were they leaking? They would be replaced by lexus during the vvt recall...
