Ways to prevent sticky dash. Dash cover, sun shade or both?!
What's a more effective way to prevent this problem. I have a 2008 IS250 w/ approx. 67k miles that I daily and park in a garage at night. I heard this issue is from 06-10. Anyways, the previous owner had a dash cover in the car so I think that's why I don't have the issue yet. I don't like the look of those bushy ones so I'd invest into a diamond stitched (with non-slip backing) like this. As of right now, I have a sun shade that I put on when I'm at work and parked outside.

What if I don't have the problem yet? Do I still dump all the grease on there. And I've thought about tinting but is it still as effective if the car is parked out in the sun? It'll still get as hot if the car is just baking in the sun right even though it may not be as quickly

All you can do is try and prevent it. Tint the windshield, use the sunshade, and only if you want have the dash mat made at an upholstery shop. Text me if you need a good shop. It's in SJ and the guy has done my buddies LS460L in all diamond stitch. I personally don't like the mats but to each his own.

My dash started to become sticky and shiny this past year. I found this from reading detailing forums and it does appear to clean the dash of the sticky and shiny plasticizers.
I originally tried to use 303 aerospace to protect the dash from damage but it ended up making the dash even shinier and stickier. The plastic deep cleaner stripped all that off and left the dash feeling much better. It won't fix your dash if it has already been severely damaged/melted, but if you are in the beginning stages of the problem this will definitely help return the dash to normal. I also use a custom covercraft windshield shade to further protect the dash.

Edited: Forgot to mention, ALWAYS clean the dash when cool because when it is hot and melty it is VERY easy to damage. DO NOT TOUCH IT/CLEAN WHEN HOT!

Just leave it as it is (continue what you are doing). I don't have the problem either. If it is not broken don't try to fix it.
