Default My 6 speed gearbox interchange

Well I tried a search to no avail, after a little info as to if any fellow members have successfully used a 6 speed manual gearbox from a 3.6 litre camaro? I see wiki lists this gearbox as common but still wondered if it's identical, my gearbox is extremely sad and worn and my option here in New Zealand is to import a 6 speed from Australia for cheap, I can ship it for free and the Australian made holden commodore Model Sv6 also uses the AY6 and there are low mileage boxes a plenty on Ebay , even if it's physically different I'm hoping to swap the gear sets over.

Default Solved

Well as it turns out insides were the same , I managed to source SV6 holden gearbox locally from a wreck that had a big crack in the casing from an accident and got the box for 200 bucks, stripped them down , swapped out parts that actually looked fine in the is250 box , and hey presto no more noisy hard to change gearbox, I can't believe it was actually stuffed in the first place due to the size of the gearbox , it's easily as big as a skyline rb25det box but I think the problem may be the fact there is no input shaft support bearing or location into the flywheel, like a front wheel drive gearbox, terrible design .

^Glad to see someone that goes to the trouble to do such a thing! I've rebuilt two handfuls of Honda hydro manual transmissions myself, and find them actually quite easy now.

Though we don't have Holden products here in the states, you are saying that the V6 Camaro 3.6L manual 6-sp trans is the same one that is used in our manual IS250s?

I'm pretty positive it's the exact same motor in a camaro , it's pretty much same chasis as the vy sv6 holden commodore , it's funny reading the forums on the camaro as well, all the same gearbox issues, one surprising thing was how easy the box is to pull out, once all the plastic covers are removed it's just ya run of the mill standard rear wheel drive configuration , it took only 4 hrs to drop the gearbox out .
