Default Redline IS250 MT

Just a question for you guys. Does anyone redline their IS alot?

During the summer sometimes I like to hit it hard to 4000~7000 rpm till speed limit and switch it to 6th gear. During the winter I drive normal at 1000~3000 rpm.

I just love the sound from high revs and the Lexus HKS exhaust sound.

I know lexus is very conservative and their redline is probably in a very safe zone. But I just want to ask if anyone has any opinion regarding this matter?

Also would it be bad for the engine if you keep the rev meter around 4000 for 10+ minutes?

I used to take it to redline every once in a while and play with my Blitz throttle controller to see how it felt. I was pretty much over my "race" days so I didn't feel I needed to do it and be annoyingly loud to "sound" like I was fast. My buddies IS350 smoked me so bad he put me in my place. I just don't think running the RPM's so high for so long is a good idea. Just my opinion though.

4k isn't exactly "high" for these motors, but definitely isn't good on any motor to stay at a static rpm for an extended period of time.

I've bounced off the limiter a couple of times in 1st. Sometimes I would keep the car in 3rd or 4th on the freeway, this was a few days before I brought my car in for the carbon buildup CSP @96k.

Thanks for all the input. I guess I should tone it a bit down with the high rev thing, and really shouldn’t drive in high RPM for an extended period of time.

@liqB. Uh oh carbon buildup eh? Do you think there is any relationship with the high constant rev and carbon buildup for your engine?

^Just the opposite, I personally believe that if you drive like a grandma that you're MORE prone to get carbon build-up. The engine needs to be ran hard from time to time to help "clear" things out of the system.

This is how I feel too. Too bad by the time I decided to drive my car more aggressively, my car already hit limp mode a couple of time a la carbon buildup.

BTW Pearl how many miles on your car?

redlining the engine isnt bad but in excess on a daily driven car, its best to keep an eye on the oil if your redlining constantly. We have a Z06 race car at work (that I helped build with the bosses son) and a few 944's and we have to change the oil after every race. Running the car at 4-6k rpms constantly depletes the viscosity of engine oil that when we drain it, it is slick like water which over time is BAD to run on your daily. Less oil viscosity = more engine wear eventually leading to less engine life.

So my advice to you, if you are going to redline constantly like a race car, I advise you shorten your oil change interval if you want the car to last a bit longer. Cars are meant to go fast and getting in to the high RPMS; but its just going to require more maintence

@liqB Currently mine is at 130K

@NYKnick101 great advise, I’ll check the oil more often and change oil a little more often.

Redline twice a day XD

^What FD are you running? I had a 4.5 on my Quaife LSD and yeah, HWY cruising when N/A was hella loud and annoying. Then added turbo and the sound was amazing!

What is a "Blitz throttle controller"?
