What specific type of oil does an 09 IS250 take and how many miles can you go before you need to change?

Oil for the engine? 5w30 or you can do 10w30 depending on your location. Mileage depends if you are running dino, full/blend synthetic or 100% synthetic. Check your dip stick to because your engine may burn oil like some on the forum do.

The recommended oil viscosity for your 09 IS250 is printed right on the engine oil filler cap, it's 5W-30.
Lexus disagrees with darkdream; the owners manual says "If SAE 5W-30 oil is not available, SAE 10W-30 may be used. However it should be replaced with SAE 5W-30 at the next oil change."
The factory recommended oil change interval is 5,000 miles, although many here go far longer than that, especially with synthetic oils. If you are interested, search for "Blackstone" on this forum and you'll likely turn up some threads where people have posted their used oil analysis reports with different oils at recommended and extended drain intervals.
