Default 2006 IS250 Midpipe Leak. Repair/Replacement Options?

I have a 2006 IS250, 87,500 miles (140,000 km).

Check Engine and VSC light came on. Error code came back as P0430 and my mechanic diagnosed it as a midpipe leak. This seems to be a common problem for the 2006 IS250.

I’ve gone to a local muffler shop and have two options right now.

1. Replace the mid pipes using aluminum at the muffler shop for $300
2. Buy an aftermarket Invidia mid pipe ($400) and get it installed ($150) - $550 total
3. Buy another aftermarket or OEM mid pipe and get it installed

I’m looking for something cost effective and plan on keeping the car at least another 4 years or longer depending on reliability. I live in Toronto, Canada and the winters can get quite harsh.

Recommendations?

You can buy very cheap used OEM midpipe from clublexus members here on the classified section. Tons of these members have stock OEM midpipe in their garage because many replaced them with the Invidia midpipe for the loud sound zrooom zrooom. The Invidia will make your car very loud comparing to the stock one.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did a quick search in the classifieds and couldn't find anything. Already looked on Craigslist and Kijiji and will keep an eye out on it.

Is the Invidia that much louder than oem?

Do you have any plans modifying your car at any point during the next 4 years?

If yes, I'd recommend an aftermarket mid-pipe. 2 birds with one stone

I've owned the car for 4 years and haven't made any mods and no I currently do not have any plans to mod in the future. I'm looking for the option that will provide me the best value.

Yes, definitely loud. You can judge yourself with the video below.

If you are have no plan in modification, Invidia midpipe doesn't seem to bring you much value. Stay with OEM if you want that OEM feel, look and quiet sound.

Thanks for the video.

Is OEM made out of alumnimum or stainless steel? Any idea what the part number and cost is?

The OEM is probably alumnized steel not sure though, I found the Invida for $320 and the OEM will usually cost more, here's the eBay link http://www.ebay.com/itm/Invidia-06-Lexus-IS250-IS350-RWD-Exhaust-Mid-Pipe-70mm-/321569984424?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4adf108fa8&vxp=mtr

Again, I suggest you to post a "WTB OEM midpipe" thread in this section https://www.clublexus.com/forums/2ge...eds-06-13-173/. You will probably receive some offers from members on this board for a very good prices.

Thanks, that seems to be the going rate from a number of sellers.

Thanks again. Will do. I guess this isn't really an urget repair and I can wait for one to come up.

Edit: Turns out I do not have sufficient privileges to post in classifieds yet. Need to be a member for 30 days with 30+ posts.
