so my friend was reving up my 2006 lexus is350 and it went past the 7 redline on the gauge? couldn't of been longer then a second or two. he didnt cause any damage to my engine did he?
did the rev limiter come on or something?

thanks

It's toast. Once you hit the red it means that the engine is no good anymore.

Nah, it will be fine.

Every IS 350 needs to bang off the limiter at least once a year to maintain mechanical health...copy/pasted from the owners manual.

dont bounce off the rev limiter but it's good to rev them high once in a while to clean the carbon buildup

^I had to look-up to see what that was all about; seems to be a legit thing, though I'd never see myself doing it.

Default Bounced mine pretty hard 20 miles from the dealership

I bought mine used a week prior to Christmas. 2008. It spent some time up north, some in Georgia, 4 months with someone, and 3 months on the lot. I bought it with a couple of little cosmetic issues on the exterior. Patience boys. That is the idea. Took 8 months of looking. Got it for a song and dance. Anyway, I digress. I punched it and let it sing on the way home on a river flat. Not only did it take off, but it blew lots of black smoke when it did. Been clear as a bell since. I'm not sure who had it, but the indentions in the back seat of a baby seat tells me they never drove it hard - just couldn't miss deer nor find a quality body shop for that matter. She runs great! The point is, bouncing it once in a while is not going to kill it unless something is already wrong with the engine.
