Default Yes another oil Topic but with good questions. (penzoil 0w-40)

Ok ive looked thoroughly through the forums and dont have a consistent answer. I want to use full synthetic penzoil 0w-40 for many reasons and want to know if you guys agree or I am just being over zealous. 1. I like to drive kinda hard with frequent hard acceleration 2. I drive short distances alot of on and off which i know the 0w would be great for this. 3. Live in a hot climate. Its at least in the 110s F in the summer and lasting almost into the fall. Any input would be great. Thanks.

I personally stay with synthetic 0w-20 on my IS250 2012 (10k miles interval) and synthetic 5W-30 on my IS350 2006 (5k miles interval) as recommended by Lexus. I believe Lexus engineers have done all the homework for us.

I drive both cars daily, have short distance travels + same hot summer temp in Southern CA as you mentioned, and autocross/track them multiple times a year (with the IS350 more of course) where I push them all to the limit. Both still run smooth like day 1.

Yeah, I made a thread about autocrossing last year and encourage people to try autocrossing with the IS. I feel lonely out there lol as I'm usually the only guy with the IS350 out there most of the time

Having gone through various places, I personally like autocrossing with the Porsche Club of America in Irvine the most. They are the coolest group to hang around with. If you are interested in going to give it a try, feel free to ask me https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...b-for-fun.html

Autocross many times should be fine as it doesn't give too much stress to the engine. I do it multiple times a year without problem except spending money on tires, brake pads, and admission haha.

Track, on the other hand, gives a lot more stress to the engine and other parts. You can wear out the OEM pads easily and tear apart the tires if you do it aggressively enough. I tend not to track much now because it is just too expensive.

Autocross is more fun to me because it is a lot more technical, you have a lot more turns, and the layout is completely different every time I went so you have to learn how to adapt fast how to drive well. The only cons is you won't have long straight away where you blast out 100+ MPH like you can on track. Track has a lot fewer turns though and the layout is pretty much the same if you go to the same track.

You mentioned you like driving aggressively so I really encourage you to give autocrossing a try. It is legal, very fun and addicting!!! You can really learn the limit of the car, and appreciate how well the IS can handle

Don't do any mod yet, I started out autocrossing with a COMPLETELY STOCK IS250 and I eventually build it out over the years and also bought the IS350 dedicated to the task to see the difference. When you autocross and build out your car slowly, I will guarantee you that you will appreciate each upgrade more than if you fully mod out your car all at once because you will always have the stock car to compare with a base line. I was actually very impressed with the stock IS250 FSport package as it handles quite well for a stock car.

I personally autocross for fun, and learn the limit of the car, and not bump head into competition with anyone. If you are 1 hour away from Irvine, chance is you are very close to me lol.
