Thank You Club Lexus -- P0430 Trouble Code
The Forum saved me a bunch of money today.
Brought my car to the shop yesterday to look at a Check Engine Light. They said they could get to my car in just a few minutes so I stuck around long enough to get what code it was throwing. "P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2" -- did not mean too much to me, so I went home and let them finish the diagnostics. When I got home, I searched the code on the Forum. Got a call a little while later and she tells me did not find any leaks, so we will need to replace the catalytic converter, plus the exhaust manifold because its all one unit. You can imagine what that's going to cost. After my search on the subject on the Forum, I asked her to request the mechanic check again for leaks, particularly on the Y pipe, over the heat shield (which, according to several posts on the forum was a common area for leaks --- allowing fresh air to the O2 sensor, which then gives a false reading). Fortunately, rather than being offended at a customer telling them how to do their jobs, the mechanic did check again, and found a leak right where it was suggested. Welded up the hole without even pulling the exhaust. Charged for a few hours labor, no parts.
