Default Navigation/gps issue- keeps fading/blacking out

hey guys, need some idea of what's going on with my 06 is350 navigation. When going to the destination screen the icons keep fading/blacking out so I cant click them and then they fade back in. Very strange. Everything else is working. Could it be a sensor or a setting? I attached two pictures.

Has the NAV unit ever been removed for the center console before? Seems like a loose connection between the NAV disc unit and the screen, making the screen display no buttons relating to the NAV abilities once connection is lost.

Just to rule out the obvious, is this happening when the car is stopped, or when the car is being driven? If the latter, it is completely normal. Those icons grey out and become non-responsive as soon as the car is moving more than a couple miles-per-hour.
