Default Is CPO worth it on 2013 IS 250 AWD?

Hello all,

I am in the market for a 2013 IS 250 AWD. In my area, I found a nice, full-loaded, low-mileage car (20K miles) with roughly 15 months left on the manufacturer's warranty. It is being sold at an Infiniti dealership. Cars with the same options and miles at my local Lexus dealerships are going for around $2,000 - $3,000 more. The draw to these cars is the Lexus CPO inspection and the 36 month warranty.

I am only planning on driving the car 5,000 - 7,000 miles per year, so I won't be putting a lot of wear on it. What are your thoughts on this? Given the available cars, price disparity, remaining warranties, and my driving habits, what route would ya'll suggest?

Also, I've owned a Toyota product in the past and purchased it with 90,000 miles. It was mostly good as far as reliability goes and I expect the same from Lexus. Are these 2013 IS 250s fairly reliable?

Thanks for your inputs.

If you find a CPO car that you like you can negotiate $2K discount and have CPO warranty dropped.

Hi BrownPride,

I have just purchased a 2013 IS250 AWD CPO. The dealer put a good price on it, as the initial price was dropped from $28K to $25K to help move the car from their lot. It had 48K miles on it so not exactly low mileage but low enough for them to certify it and provide the CPO warranty so was not a bad deal.

I hear that these cars are very reliable as long as you adhere to regular maintenance schedule. This is my first Toyota/Lexus product purchase and I am hoping it does last me a long time. I will provide you with updates after a month of driving it but so far no major complaints.

Also make sure you try to identify as potential issues and report it to the dealer ASAP after you buy the car. For example, I have found that the brake rotors were warped and the dealer replaced front rotors and resurfaced rear ones free of charge. Now the car brakes very smoothly as it should.
