I still dont think you get it. Read some of the previous posts. They are not shifters, they are upper gear limiters. Sounds like you had the gear limiter set to 4, so the auto trans still chooses between gears 1 and 4. Sounds like the auto trans wanted to go to 5th gear, but couldn't because you had the limiter set to 4. Once you finally raised the limiter (not a shifter) to 5, the auto trans shifted into 5th gear. The TC on or off has nothing to do with it.

The facelifted 2IS can also downshift in D.

On Higway with TC off I switch to S on 4 gear redline to 100mph forgot to shft to 5 gear. My RPM cut off when from 6800 to 0 in a second. When Traction Control is on automatic will shift to 5 for you.

Ok. maybe I'll take it to the track sometime this summer to test out 1/4 mile. In full auto and paddle shift.

And see which one is faster?

I'll tell you now - it's D with TCS OFF . . .

If you're feeling sluggish, you should reset the car so that the car learns your driving habits and gives you the throttle response you want. I do it every oil change.

You mean the 3IS (3rd generation IS x50 from 2014+)?

These cars can paddle shift in M or in D.

This generation's paddle shifters work as advertised. 2015 IS 250

This generation's paddle shifters are top gear limiters. 2007 Lexus IS 250 AWD

Put the car in Power mode and it feels faster though I know it's been tested that it's not.

Paddle shift and power mode feel faster cause you can keep RPM high.

No, the facelifted 2IS can use paddle shifters when in D to downshift, exactly like the 3IS. I do it all the time when getting off the freeway or to pass.

What year is your 2IS? That makes a difference.

2011-13 model. I believe have the new exterior/interier features. Like the led strip headlight, facelift front bumper, and what she mention for anytime paddle shifting on D mode. I personally think its pretty funny paddle shifting when still on D mode. I had a 2015 loaner car a few weeks ago. Find it kinda useless. Tbh

Ahh, the 2011-2013 were the only ones to do that.

Depends on how you use it I guess, in the 2015 I use it to pass someone on the highway when I'm stuck behind someone and the traffic is moving rather quick. I slap it down to a lower gear and make my pass while staying in D. Or where I live, there are roundabouts that I approach and just downshift in D to decelerate and go through them rather quick.

For my 2007, I just press them in D all the time (the paddles) while I'm driving since the don't do anything until the shifter is in S. Sometimes the shifters are pressed to the beat of my music.
