Default ISF Steering Computer Transplant Question

Question for those of you that upgraded your Steering ECUs.

I'm trying to decide between a used 89650-53040 for $300 and a new 89650-53041 for $500. I know the -41 is slightly better than the -40, but does anybody actually think its $200 better? I'd be willing to pay the $200, if the difference is noticable. I'm currently running the stock one in my '06 350 luxury.

I am pretty sure the 40 is 2012 and the 41 is 2013, right? I went with the 40 because of the price and have no regrets. No idea if I would have ever noticed a difference with the newer module.

If you buy the ECU, make sure you have techstream to calibrate the unit.

40 is the 08-10 IS-F Steering ECU, 41 is the 11-12 IS-F Steering ECU, and 42 is the 13-14 IS-F Steering ECU.

Based on the significant improvement felt from swapping out the 40 model to the 41 model (and that multiple IS-F owners were happy with purchasing the 41 model), I'd say that the extra $200 to go from the 40 to 41 model is well-worth it. It's still unknown if the 42 model is worth the additional $200 premium over the previous 41 model.

Feel free to read the impressions from IS-F owners that went from the 40 to 41 model to help with your decision:

In sport mode, the wheel firms up nicely and the car feels that much more assuring, as it seems to communicate what's going on with the car that much better, magnifying the above. Previously, I felt the steering was somewhat numb/disconnected at or during small degrees of steering input from center, but the 53041 ECU completely rids the car of this, and it's very confidence-inspiring. Most of all, it's just very fun to place the car where I want it, while feeling it transition.

This is how the car should have came from the factory. Period.

Ya, I'm due for my 120k and because of the necessity of a loaner car while its being worked on and the car being new to me, I was planning on taking it to the Lexus dealer. Gonna have them do the 120k (minus the sparkplugs, oil, and all filters which I'll have done by myself prior), alignment for my new suspension, and calibrate the steering.

Oh, I guess I missed the one with ISF owners upgrading. I had only read alot about X50 guys upgrading. I think I'll go with the -41 then. Thanks!

The 2012 ISF ECU should not be $500. I paid $300 in Canada at a dealer. I think they wanted $350 but I got them to $300.

Which dealership did you purchase the ecu from? Do they use a different ECU for the canadian model? I will be visiting Montreal this weekend and thought i take advantage of the tax saving.

I'll have to check with duty free first. Are there any difference from the Canadian model vs the US models?
