Question Couldn't rev past 4500rpm

Last night, in neutral, the car wouldn't rev past 4500 rpm.... it would just get to that in the rev range, and drop down with no throttle response.
Similarly, in park, it did the same thing.
I turned the car off, and back on again, and this seemed to resolve the problem.

I have a 2009 is250 awd with about 83000km on it... regular scheduled maintenance was for 82k, but I haven't gotten the chance to take it in yet.

Lately, I have been noticing some interesting things... also including when shifting from drive to neutral and back to drive, there is a couple of seconds of delay with throttle response once back in drive.

Any ideas on what this could be? MAF or throttle body related? I'm hoping its nothing transmission related

Thanks

It's the car telling you that you have no reason it rev it that high in neutral or park. Your car is fine.

Quit revving it high when it's not in gear.

Someone has worn out their converter.

So in all seriousness, is my car actually being preventative by preventing me from revving or do I actually have a transmission issue as Gville350 mentioned?

You should not be limited to reving, whether at a running stop or running in any gear.

Which I agree with, but the fact is it happened, I switched the car off, and it was "resolved"... I'm concerned because transmission repairs tend to be a PITA and take a lot of labour hours....

But at the same time, I'd like to know if there's actually a problem with the car or if it was a one-off problem. I'll try and see if I can get a reader to see if she's throwing any codes...

Have you seen the CEL recently? The ECU does store codes, but they have to be triggered first to be stored.

You're best bet is to wait it out and see if the problem continues to reoccur.

Good luck!

Nope no lights at all on my dash! You have scared me now with the idea that my torque converter may be worn .... I'll keep an eye out.

I will check my car later, but I am fairly certain the ECU limits the RPMs in neutral or park because it's not good for an engine to rev high when there's no load.

But regardless, if the car shifts and acts fine when you just drive it properly and leave it in gear, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Makes sense, but I've revved high before in neutral and park (to make noise) and it hadn't happened.

This happens to me randomly sometimes. Usually I can redline and it spits fast. But sometimes for some reason it doesnt let me rev past 4500 like you're saying. Random, I never heard anyone with the same situation.
