Default Alternator failure...discovered new issue..

Took my 06 is350 to the Lexus dealer; alternator failed and left me on the side of the highway. When they got it in to the dealer they said I have an oil leak from the chain chain, behind the cover. I have searched and have seen the fix for this was in line with what they said; drop engine and replace cover for 3k! Since most of that is labor from dropping engine, I was wondering if anyone experienced with engine swapping (or rebuilding) could let
Me know how much those options (rebuild or replaced engine) would be comparatively?
If I'm paying 3k to repair an engine with 140k+ miles on it why not just get
A new one and let that 3k go towards a new engine (which would be a good Resale point as well for a super high mile car)

As for now I've been told there's nothing wrong with just topping it off ocassionally

My opinion on the timing chain cover leaks is just deal with it and monitor it weekly. Not worth the cost of repair.

Yeah I'm thinking that too. I always have a liter or two of synthetic in the trunk anyways by habbit; I once owned an e92 m3 and the acceptable amount of burned oil in one of those is atrocious.

I'm still wondering the economics of a full rebuild or replacement with a good core.

Hahaha...i have the same issues and was quoted over $4k to fix by the dealership (and $about $2k by reputable indie). I decided not to fix it since my car has over 120k miles on it. The leak hasn't gotten worsening with almost 10k miles.
I would say just let it be and monitor the leak.
