Would you run 245 40 18 in the back or stock 250 40 18

I'm betting dollars to donuts that you heard wrong. There isn't any reason a narrower tire with a shorter sidewall would ride "better".

Stock is 255 in the rear. Maybe you heard 245/45 ran better/softer?
