I was driving to work this morning when my low tire pressure light came out. Stopped by a gas station just to add some air to the tires and found a nail there. It's fairly close to the sidewalls, but I was wondering if this was repairable or not?

 

it's usually repairable,
sometimes free, if not, should be fairly cheap to fix (15-20bucks)

I had the same exact issue last weekend.
Don't unplug it.
Drive to Discount tire they will repair it for free.

 

"Most" Will repair as long as your tread has enough to drive on according to them. Nice shaved sidewalls!

 

Do you know if they have to remove the tire to repair it? I'm trying to avoid that since the last shop I took it to told me they didn't want to put them on again due to them being slightly bent.

I just took my tire with a nail in about the same place to Lexus and they said the tire had to be replaced. I have the wheel and tire insurance so I don't know if that effects the decision but they said it wasn't repairable. It is the second tire replaced with a nail in about the same position even though the first was definitely closer than the one I took in today.

 

Thanks Mariano! Will most of the shops need to take the tire off to repair it? Pretty new to this tire repairing thing.

 

^^^^For a proper repair the tire needs to be removed from the wheel. The repair ship will then put a plug in the hole from the outside, and put a patch on the hole inside the tire. It will then need to be remounted and balanced, and then put in water to make sure the patch doesn't leak.

Just go to your local auto parts store and grab a tire repair kit for $5-$8. They give you a few sealers, which should last you a few years.

They patched the inside which is the proper way to go!

 

should be repairable BUT more than likely they are going to tell you your tire is unsafe because of un-even tire wear happens to me all the time well that and also because I have a slight stretch.

It's not repairable for sure cause the hole is near side wall so they won't repair it for you.
