Default Engine Codes: P0031 and P2195

I have engine codes P0031, P2195, P0031 pending, and P2195 pending. I have had these for a quite a while and haven't gotten around to replacing them due to college schedule etc. So I am finally going to fix them but just wanted to double check a couple of things.

First off, should I replace both Bank 1, Sensor 1 and Bank 2, Sensor 2? The code is only for B1S1 but I figured they've both been on the car for 90k miles at this point... so maybe they should both be changed?

Second, what precautions should I take while handling the sensors. I mean I know I shouldn't be banging them on anything or being careless, but do i need to be super careful and not get like finger grease on them... etc.?

Third, sort of unrelated... but I got a new exhaust setup that is running a secondary cat delete. Seeing as though the O2 sensors are in front of where the cats were, I'm assuming that that won't affect the sensors. Just wanted to double check.

Thanks for feedback in advance,
Matt

I live by the creedo of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". An O2 sensor should last longer than 90K, so leave the other one alone. When installing the new O2 sensor, just don't smash it. Don't worry about oil or grease, it won't harm the sensor and the hot exhaust gas will burn it off. What you might want to do is put some anti-seize compound on the threads when you install it.

As for deleting the pre-cats, I did that on a previous car and didn't have any problems. The sensor 1 is used to monitor the exhaust coming direct from the cylinder and is used to determine how much gas the fuel injectors squirt. They don't know (or care) what happens after the exhaust goes past them.

If it were me, I'd replace both o2 sensors. As far as handling - be sure not to twist the wiring and use the correct tool:

Removing the secondary cats will not through a code since they are down stream of any sensors.

I did bank 1 sensor 1 today and it was fairly simple, just a slight pain. All the codes are gone. I put anti-seize on the threads and made sure not to bang it too hard against anything. I would've done both sensors, apparently bank 2 is easier, but I am kind of sick and I was not feeling the second sensor so I just decided to wait for that one to break too.
