Smile looking to buy 2006 IS250 AWD

It has 72k I haven't looked at it yet but I plan to very soon. The price is right too.

What should I watch out for in these cars? Common issues? Major issues?

I'm looking at an Audi A6 3.2Q with a few less miles for about the same price BUT those engines have issues with timing chains failing . Requiring me to get a warranty and liming the amount of time I'd be willing to own the car. I'm aware of the size difference but the cars are pretty comparably equipped.

I figure if I get the Lexus I could drive it till the wheels fall off which should be at least 100k and wouldn't need a warranty.

Common Issue - If it has not already been replaced for some reason, the water pump almost religiously seems to fail on the 2IS around 100k miles. It certainly happened to me, and it seems to be a pattern here in the forums. I had the stealership replace mine, but I did have a third party warranty, so it soaked most of the cost up. It was noisy for a while before it finally bit the dust, so if you test drive the one you are looking at, and the water pump is already noisy, that repair is in your near future and maybe can be used as leverage to get the price down. My warranty service would not replace it until it completely failed, so I had to either come out of pocket 100%, or wait for it to give up the ghost.

lilcoop: Do you know what the cost of that might be? I was thinking about a 3rd party warranty as well 5yr 100k for like $3k. Not sure yet though, leaning towards no. It's through Carchek which is well reviewed online.
