Mine was in the summer. The hotter it was outside, the shorter the duration the bulb stayed lit. At 100°F outside and add some engine heat and it failed in 5 min. First it would flicker, dim to an orange hue, then turn off and hum.
I did the Morimoto XB 6000k for $60 a pair and its been a year, color and output are still good. They are just white. Nothing crazy.

I bought new ballasts and bulbs. Burned in the ballasts for 24hrs to confirm they are worthy of bumper removal but never installed them. New Yoda/Denso parts.
Mind you I bought the car from dealership with bum lighting, fought them a bit and they paid for all new hardware and some labor but I was not going to let that crew pull the 350 apart.
FWIW my Mazda 6 the D2S bulbs ran ten years. The D4S being mercury free do not seem to last as long.
