Airbags on 08 IS250
HI All,
I received the recall for my passenger Bag, but what are the chances that two different airbags, with 2 different kinds of nickel, could have gone into my car? We are not supposed to have front seat passengers (Now I look like an Uber X driver when I have a friend in the car!)
When all of this started, I was assured (vehimently by the dealers service department) that there where no Takadas in my cars or that they were not subject to recall.
Now 2 years later, I get a recall for the Passenger side, and another for a Corolla I had (same year, same issue)
Honda has just slapped it's cars with a No Drive and sent out Tows to get them and rentals for the drivers until this is resolved.
Am I in danger if I continue to drive this car? I do not want to get nother notice for the driver side. I feel very unsafe.
Any words of wisdom out there, my friends?

I know it's a lot of reading (thread is now currently at 10 pages and counting) but the questions being asked now are the same as asked and answered in earlier posts. Please, before you ask a question, do some reading. Otherwise this thread will grow into something unwieldy. Thanks

What can Lexus do with them? It can pay the dealer a small fraction of the $1,500 per month they are paying for Enterprise rental cars to store them, give a small fraction of the $1,500 x 6 or more months Lexus is ready to spend per person on Enterprise rental cars to the owners to use as an incentive to purchase a new vehicle, and Lexus can make its customers happy and move them into new expensive cars. It's called taking a bad situation and using it as a tool to drive sales. Instead, Lexus is wasting cash and making customers angry. The tens of millions of vehicles affected by Takata recalls represent a crisis for the auto industry, and Lexus' failure to deal with the situation in a cost-efficient manner is an example of poor crisis management. This is Lexus' opportunity to shine and drive new sales, but instead it is floundering.

I have been through all 10 pages and not found anything remotely resembling an answer to my question. But I have found a lot of scared, angry people, and I am becoming one of them.
Do you know if there is a possibility that there could be two different producers or 2 different production times on the bags? Are we going to find put a couple of years down the road? like we did with the passenger bags, that these turned out to be defective too? If you can find an answer in the threat, I would love to see it to calm my fears.

Sorry to be a party pooper, but what makes you think the rental car is any better air bag wise? Do the study, even the replacement airbag inflater may need to be recalled.
They are all bad designed parts, with no pressure relief valves and cases that are not thick enough.

Also from an indepth study of air bag injuries and fatalities, you or who ever the driver is can be injured or killed by normal air bag deployment. And I'm not saying they can't help prevent all the above, years ago I was the first that thought they were just great.
The idea of them is fantastic, but the way they work and are designed is not. There have been loss of vision cases from simple things like the plastic cover material that covers the air bag and makes the steering wheel look nice flying apart and hitting eyes at 200 mph.
Just ride a motorcycle at 100 mph and get hit with a good size flying bug and you will see that is coming at you pretty fast.
Short and over weight people have been killed from them because of how close they are to the bag.
Recall on just the passenger side is nonsense, the reasoning is because its a larger bag and the inflator has more propellant than does the driver side. News flash as far as I know the solo injuries and deaths have been caused by the driver side bag.
All the inflators need to be redesigned they are too weak obviously, and logic says if the pressure exceeds the capability to hold the pressure then a relief valve is necessary pretty simple stuff. Its also a proven that the propellant is not going to follow a special rule so a worse case scenario needs to be planed for.
A very good article, and in the pictures look at how thin the shrapnel pieces are, just wow.
